Happy Valentine’s Day February 14, 2017 Roses are red, violets are blue, I'm not crazy about Valentine's Day, are you? Well let me clarify that - it's not that I dislike the holiday but come on, shouldn't we be showing love to those around us a regular basis? And opening our hearts and being kind to one another - do we need a special day for that?  I guess also I think holidays like this can make some people feel sad and that bothers me. Never Give Up! February 7, 2017 Well, I finally tackled chin stand. What is that you ask? Just some crazy yoga pose that my husband thinks I shouldn't even be doing. Ha! Around two years ago I saw some people doing this pose in a yoga class and I had no idea on how to do it. I started asking some of my yoga teachers about it and if they could teach me. They gave me some good tips, and every once in a while I gave it a try, getting a little closer to my goal. Meanwhile a dear yogi friend of mine told me of course I could do this pose. "If I can do it, you can do it", she said, over and over again. Recently we were in class together and she showed me how. And voila - I did it! Moral of the story: don't be afraid to ask for help, surround yourself by individuals who encourage and support you, and never give up! Read More

Should I Take a Multi-Vitamin? January 30, 2017 I don't know about you, but some mornings all I want to do is stay in my pj's and drink coffee. OK, some mornings? Who am I kidding!!! Anyway, sound familiar? Many of you have to drag your butt out of bed and get to work early and you hit the gym(or whatever your fitness is) later. But some of you do try to hit the gym first. For me, it's dragging myself out of bed and getting to yoga. And the funny thing is - I love yoga!! But some days it is just so damn hard to get there. What I do, is remind myself that my body will thank me. One of my favorites quotes is: "The human body is a terrible thing to waste". When in Rome… January 23, 2017 Just got back from a business trip in Vienna. I know - tough job!!! Anyway, every time I travel I kind of have the motto "When in Rome.....". So guess what, I had my share of weiner schnitzel, goulash, boiled beef and beef soup. And happy to report, it was not my favorite fare! How I longed for a lentil soup, large mixed green salad and linguini primavera. Luckily the hotel breakfast was superb and I was able to start my day with avocado toast with a poached egg on top. Baby, It’s Cold Outside! January 9, 2017 I hate winter! I mean I really hate winter. In all honestly I think I was meant to live on a warm tropical island where I would wear only yoga shorts, a tank top and be barefoot all day long. Wait? Have I already complained about this? In any event, here's the thing - winter isn't going away and I am not moving anywhere at the moment: therefore, I need to change the way I think about winter. For example: when it snows, I will try to think about how lucky I am to have a roof over my head, or when I complain about piling on all those layers, I will try and be grateful I have a warm coat. I will also simply grin and bear it - just like every other year. I will still eat healthy. I will still practice yoga. And as much as I don't love to rush time, I will focus on how it will all be different in 3 months from now. Read More

Forget Those Crappy Resolutions January 2, 2017 Another year - another list of resolutions! Why oh why do we do this to ourselves every year? We make all these promises to do better, on so many levels, and then fall flat on our butts. The thing is - we give up too early, waaaay too early. Rome wasn't built in a day, right? So here's a story: I injured my hamstring a while back. And all of a sudden I went from being a flexible yogi to that person who couldn't touch her toes. I wanted a quick fix but there wasn't such a thing. Patience is what was required. And so I modified my practice, listened to my body, and let go of my ego. Give Compassion A Try December 20, 2016 As many of you might know I am the middle of doing a yoga teacher training. I am doing it not necessarily to teach yoga to others, but more so to deepen my own practice. Lately the word “compassion” has been coming up in many of our conversations, especially how important it is to have compassion towards others. But also, and the one so difficult for many, is to be able to have compassion for themselves. Think about it – to be able to forgive yourself for your imperfections, your failures, and perhaps not living up to your own expectations (that maybe you set way too high to begin with) – sure isn’t easy. But at the end of the day, in order to move forward, sometimes we must learn to let go. So as we approach a new year……why not give compassion a try? Read More

Say NO To Resolutions! December 12, 2016 In less than a month it will be a New Year - wow!  So let me go on the record right now and say how I am not a fan of resolutions! Surprised? Probably not. I have always been a fan of the saying: "Do not put off till tomorrow what you can do today!" And guess what folks -- that applies to anything that you see fit as a resolution. Healthy eating? Dear Santa…… December 6, 2016 "Comparison is the thief of joy." Ran across this quote the other day, not that it was the first time I heard it, but it really made me stop and think. Wow - SO TRUE. In yoga we are always told to keep our eyes on our own mat. Comparing what your body can do and what someone's else can is really not productive. I've also had many patients over the years who felt uncomfortable going to a gym; it intimidated them because of the "buff" bodies that would surround them. Read More

Back on Track, Again! November 28, 2016 One holiday down - two more to go! I don't know about you, but my long weekend was spent perhaps eating a drop more than I should (yes....still thinking about that mouth watering rib eye steak with hash browns)  and exercising a drop less than I should. However, come Monday morning I was back on track with an early morning yoga class and a healthy breakfast with absolutely no regrets from my weekend behavior. Because honestly, what's the point of looking back and feeling badly about something you can not change? Better to take that energy and focus on making today and tomorrow something you feel good about! Read More
